How to run an Alinco DJ-V5 on Echolink

Obtain Node Details:

Before you can set up the DJ-V5 to run on Echolink you need to obtain details of your local 'node'. These can be obtained from here.

The information that you need is the frequency and tone.

Set Up the DJ-V5:

Set the DJ-V5 into VFO mode (use the V/M button for this).

Use the tuning knob to select the required frequency got the node.

Once the frequency is set, the CTCSS tone can be set. To do this: There should now be a T above the frequency

Connect to a node:

First of all disconnect the charging lead from the DJ-V5 if it is plugged in. Took me ages to work this out, but for some reason the DJ-V5 will NOT transmit DTMF tones when this is plugged in.

Hold down the PTT button, and use the number buttons on the front of the DJ-V5 to type the number of a node.

If this is successful, you will hear the message "you are connected to node <node name>" or similar).

Carry out the QSO:

Now initialise and carry out a QSO as you would normally.

Close the node:

When you are finished, hold down the PTT button and press the # button to disconnect from the echolink node.
